The Equality in Marriage Institute

From 1998 to 2006, The Equality in Marriage Institute helped hundreds of thousands of men and women across the country to better manage their marriages, their transitions and their lives. As a premiere source of information and support, The Institute was a pioneer in promoting discussion on issues related to marriage and divorce in the United States and beyond.

The Equality in Marriage Institute was founded by Lorna Jorgenson Wendt after her high-profile divorce put her in the international media spotlight. When her husband of over 30 years asked for a divorce and offered her a fraction of their assets, Lorna fought back to stand up for her equality in that marriage. Her will ingness to go public with a very private matter started a national discussion on fairness and equality in marriage and divorce. Dedicated to helping others understand and obtain equality before, during and after marriage, Wendt founded the Equality in Marriage Institute in 1998.

In the years that followed, The Equality in Marriage Institute became a leader in promoting marriage as an emotional, legal and financial partnership of equals that must be defined and maintained. Through Web sites, a call center, innovative programs and comprehensive media relations campaigns, The Institute was a sought after source of support and commentary on issues relating to building stronger marriages and dealing with the impact of divorce. Since its inception, The Institute has been featured or quoted in thousands of media stories and the sound, realistic advice of the organization will resonate in our culture for many years to come.

In 2006, The Institute closed its doors, but Wendt continues to use her time, money and voice to make an impact on the way we view marriage and divorce in America .
